  20. It's like they are flat-shaded, because I can clearly see the
  21. edges of the polygon.  This occurs only in the region of the tube
  22. where the overall shading is getting darker.

  26. I'm not sure this is the problem. After you have completed the patching, did 
  27. you remember to eliminate the interior polys that you patched with? If you 
  28. didn't, you may get the kind of problems you are referring to.
